Chasing Light

Artists’ Gallery is pleased to present Chasing Light, an exhibition of work by the two newest members of the gallery, Michael Berardesco and Nancy Lloyd. Michael Berardesco and Nancy Lloyd are honored and excited to present their first two-person show, bringing new points of view to the gallery.

Michael Berardesco

With a career spanning over 50 years, award winning artist and instructor Michael Berardesco draws inspiration for his original paintings by discovering texture in the quiet corners of life. It could be an object almost buried in the shadows, the lingering silence of an abandoned room, or the steamy smell of boiling Jersey Cherrystones.

Berardesco’s muted color palette, distinctive style, and attention to detail evoke a feeling of tranquility in his imagery. His curiosity about the thought processes and reasoning behind man-made creations is evident in much of his work, as is his strong understanding of three dimensional structure and space.

“When I find something that might be a good subject for a painting, what really grabs my attention is the story it has to tell.” Berardesco says. “I want to know what series of events led to this moment in time.”

Nancy Lloyd

“Drawn to light in the dark or as it works its way through shadows, in my painting, I hope to capture light and provide a luminescent image, whether that be glowing objects or capturing the light as it illuminates a scene."

Nancy Lloyd works with translucent paints in layers, with a limited palette, creating tonalist paintings. Most recently, she has been experimenting with acrylic ink underpaintings. Along with her main mentor, David Dunlop, her inspirations are JMW Turner, along with George Inness. Recently, she has discovered the art of Ralph Blakelock and Albert Pinkham Ryder.

Nancy Lloyd has traveled around the world, calling many locations “home”, including 12 years spent internationally in England, the Philippines and Hong Kong. She moved to her current home in Solebury, PA in 2007. Nancy has been painting in oils since 1993 and enjoys all types of subject matter. She also works in encaustics, collagraphs, monoprints and collages.
