Andrew Werth West Windsor, NJ Website: www.andrewwerth.com Andrew Werth’s paintings—in a style he calls “organized organic abstraction”—are made up of thousands of hand-painted marks of acrylic paint. Gradations of color in the underpainting interact with similar changes in the top layer of marks, drawing upon the mind’s perceptual apparatus to create depth, movement, and luminosity. His work is inspired by interests in the philosophy of mind, consciousness, perception, psychology, embodiment, and the self. Since 2005, Werth has exhibited regularly throughout New Jersey, New York City, and Philadelphia. In 2016, the Monmouth Museum (Lincroft) awarded him a solo exhibition as part of their New Jersey Emerging Artists series and in 2021 The Center for Contemporary Art (Bedminster) hosted a solo show featuring more than thirty paintings. His formal degrees are from Carnegie Mellon University in Computer Engineering and Information Networking and he self-directed an arts education that drew from many of the arts institutions in New York City, including the School of Visual Arts, The New School, and the Art Students League.
