Car Parts

Artists Alan Klawans and Richard Harrington are pleased to announce the opening of their joint show, "Car Parts". The exhibit features the artists' interpretation of automobiles and automobile parts in photos and paintings.

Harrington has earned a reputation as an automotive artist, while Klawans is well known for his graphic interpretations of themes as varied as fishing, board games, and travel. Both have been members of the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville for more than 15 years, but this is just the second time the two have collaborated in a joint exhibition.

An exhibition focusing on automobiles and the components they are assembled from was first proposed by Klawans. "Recently, I had taken my car to have some body work done at a shop in Hatboro, Pennsylvania," says Klawans. "While waiting to pick up my car, I wandered the property and discovered a huge pile of damaged car parts waiting for salvage. I was taken by the visual appearance of these abandoned parts and began photographing them. The result of my continued work is my exhibition of digital photographs of these damaged parts."

"I have always admired Alan's work," says Harrington, "and I thought it might be fun to combine our subject matter in a show like this."

Like Klawans, Harrington's work is also inspired by automobiles. "I have always been interested in cars and trucks…actually, just about anything with a motor in it. I also enjoy the challenge of capturing the reflective surfaces and dynamic perspective of various vehicles using watercolor and gouache. When I saw the images Alan had captured for the show, it inspired me to create a body of work that would compliment them."
