Oil & Waterfeaturing: Eric Rhinehart and Charles David VieraThis show runs from August 7, 2014 until September 1, 2014 Opening Reception: Saturday, August 9, 4–8 pm Closing Reception: Labor Day - Monday, Sept 1, noon-6pm ![]() The relationship between "oil and water" captures the subtle creative tension that artists Charles David Viera and Eric Rhinehart bring to their subjects, so it is a fitting name for their dual show at the Artists Gallery in Lambertville, New Jersey. The aptly named "Oil and Water" exhibition will run from August 7 to August 31 and will feature works in oil ,acrylic and watercolor paints as well as a number of pastels . This is the second time the artists have teamed up for a show. In this show, Viera will present works primarily in oil and oil pastels. He brings a unique perspective to his colorful images of landscape and nature that are at once common and complex. "I like to think about the action, the tension, that is behind each image," explains Viera. "The viewer is left to wonder what will happen after the captured moment." "Moments" play a central role in Eric Rhinehart's work also. In some works, time seems to be on pause -- movement halted for a fraction of time -- compelling the viewer to step into the action. "Some of my pieces are more voyeuristic. You feel like you are looking into someone else's life -- someone else's personal reality -- as they enjoy a meal, a swim or simply get on with the work of their lives." Mr. Viera's work has been included in exhibitions at the First Street Gallery, the Adam Gimbel Gallery, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Nassau County Museum in N.Y. and locally at the Riverrun Gallery and Coryell Gallery in Lambertville NJ. An inspired educator, Charles is currently an instructor at the Arts Council of Princeton and the Hunterdon Art Museum. A Summit New Jersey resident, Eric has a degree in illustration from Parsons The New School of Design and is a practicing art director. He has had one-man and group shows in New York, Detroit, St. Louis and Washington, DC., and has held workshops at the Hunterdon Art Museum and the Hunterdon Water Color Society.
