For the past several years, much of my work has been large-scale drawings using Staedtler permanent black markers on Arches hot-press watercolor paper. I never know what will capture my imagination next. I’ve drawn animals – lots of animals -- and picket fences and vegetation (pussywillows, pine branches). I’ve also produced several series of abstract drawings, paper collages and mixed-media pieces that incorporate the techniques of hand-made books.
My art has been in many regional and national juried shows, including the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey’s International Juried Exhibition, Newark’s City Without Walls “Metro Show,” the Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition of Works on Paper, the Phillips Mill Annual in New Hope PA, both drawing and photography shows at Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown NJ, the Ellarslie Open at the Trenton City Museum, the National Juried “Art of the Horse” at the Somerset Art Association in Bernardsville, NJ. My work is included in the permanent collection of the Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission. I am a Signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and the Garden State Watercolor Society. And I’ve been the “Featured Artist” on the Discover Jersey Arts website (jerseyarts.com), sponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
I have an AFA and a BFA in Fine Arts, both earned more than 20 years after I graduated from Dartmouth College with an AB in English. I’ve been lucky enough to have taken workshops with Betty Edwards (“Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”), and courses at the Botanical Illustration Program at the New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY. I’ve studied oil painting with noted New Jersey artist Mel Leipzig, and print-making with award-winning paper- and print-maker Joan Needham. I’ve made books by hand with nationally known book artist Maria Pisano; and I’ve taken studio classes with the fearless and inspiring Pennsylvania artist Pat Martin. I am grateful to all my teachers, friends and fellow artists for their insights and encouragement. They’ve all helped to make me the artist I am today … and will be tomorrow.
